Who We Are

Our Congregation

We are a diverse congregation, reflecting the social and economic characteristics common to UU churches in this region. Our members are single, divorced, married, widowed, gay, lesbian, and transgender. We are wealthy; we are not wealthy. Some of us are single parents, some of us are new parents, and some of us are grandparents.

We are doctors, lawyers, retails salespeople, teachers, carpenters, electricians, marketing people, homemakers, artists, engineers, scientists, business owners and leaders, and high-tech folks. Some of us are unemployed. Some of us are retired.

Our religious beliefs are diverse. Some of us are lifelong UUs. Many of us are not. We come from a wide range of religious traditions and backgrounds. We are “religious liberals,” meaning we believe in choice regarding religious beliefs, and therefore we share a covenant or promise to each other to shared values but not a creed.

What we have in common are the desires to find a spiritual home, a sense of community, and to serve our communities and humanity through social action.

Statement of Purpose

We, the people of the Unitarian Universalist Area Church at First Parish in Sherborn, gather to provide a sanctuary for worship where all are welcome.

  • In community we each pursue spiritual and ethical growth through reflection, music, the arts, education and action.
  • We come to celebrate life in its fullness.
  • Enriched by our roots, we affirm and promote the Unitarian Universalist Principles and aspire to become more caring participants in the world.
