Welcoming Congregation

The Unitarian Universalist Area Church at First Parish in Sherborn welcomes, affirms and actively promotes the full participation of all persons in our activities and endeavors without regard to race, color, gender, physical or mental challenges, sexual orientation, age, class, or national origin.

As a Welcoming Congregation, we celebrate and support the lives, relationships and contributions of our lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender members and friends.

Welcoming Congregations strive to be more inclusive of bisexual, gay, lesbian and/or transgender people. Delegates of the 1989 Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to initiate this program in order to educate members, reduce prejudice, and increase understanding and acceptance among people of different sexual orientations through workshops and other task force/committee initiatives.

Our congregation began work to implement programs to promote this ideal accordingly during the 1998-1999 church year, and voted to become a Welcoming Congregation in 2001.
